Luke Fahey enters Ohio State season opener against Ball State

Freshman quarterback Luke Fahey played for Ohio State in the team's season opener against Ball State on Sept. 5. Fahey entered the game with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter while the Buckeyes held a 42-3 lead. He completed a two-yard pass to Isaiah West before throwing an interception to Cedric Franklin III after a drop by Chris Henry Jr. Coach Ryan Day previously indicated that Fahey and Tavien St. Clair would split second-team practice repetitions throughout the preseason. St. Clair, who joined the program in 2025, also entered the game during the fourth quarter. The competition between the two players for backup duties followed the offseason transfer of Lincoln Kienholz to Louisville. Day has not consistently identified a designated backup quarterback during his tenure, leaving the position depth chart fluid.
