Maloney football team defeats Glastonbury 35-28 in season opener

Maloney opened its season with a 35-28 victory over Glastonbury on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026. Quarterback Eli Showerda secured the win for the Spartans by rushing for a 1-yard touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in the game. Devan Bacote accounted for three touchdowns, contributing two rushing scores and one 15-yard reception to the Maloney offensive effort. Glastonbury rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game after a 20-yard touchdown run by Matthew Cartwright and a successful 2-point conversion. The game remained competitive until the final drive, where Bacote carried the ball repeatedly to position Showerda for the winning score. Maloney next hosts Ridgefield on Sept. 18, while Glastonbury travels to face Cheshire on the same evening.
