Manchester United competes with Real Madrid for Mateus Fernandes

Summary

Manchester United and Real Madrid are both pursuing Mateus Fernandes, currently with West Ham United. After West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, Fernandes is reportedly available for a fee around €80 million. The 21-year-old has been linked to United as his preferred destination, but Real Madrid, with interest from Jose Mourinho, has emerged as a significant competitor. Fernandes has not made Portugal's World Cup squad, despite recent praise from head coach Roberto Martinez. United's pursuit of Fernandes may lead them to consider alternative targets if they fail to secure him.
