Manny Franco and John Velazquez receive riding crop suspensions after Travers Stakes

The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority issued one-day suspensions to jockeys Manny Franco and John Velazquez for riding crop violations during the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. Franco, who piloted Leading Change to victory, was cited for seven strikes, while runner-up Napoleon Solo rider John Velazquez recorded eight strikes. Both jockeys committed Class 3 violations of the organization's regulations, which permit a maximum of six strikes during a race. In addition to the suspensions scheduled for September 24, Franco was fined $6,875 and John Velazquez was fined $1,250. This ruling follows a race featuring a purse exceeding $500,000, triggering increased financial penalties under existing guidelines. Franco continues to compete for the Saratoga riding title as the season concludes this coming Monday.
