Marcelo Flores ruled out of World Cup after ACL injury

Summary

Marcelo Flores, a Canadian-Mexican player, was included in Canada’s 26-man squad for the World Cup. However, an ACL injury sustained while playing for Tigres in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final has ruled him out. Flores, who previously represented Mexico, switched to Canada after earning three senior caps. His injury occurred just one day after his selection, preventing him from achieving a unique milestone of being the only active player to represent two host nations in the tournament. He remains 22 and could have future opportunities on the world stage.
