Marieanne Spacey-Cale to step down as Southampton director of women's football

Marieanne Spacey-Cale, director of women's football at Southampton, announced her decision to step down during the current year. She has played a crucial role in the club since 2018, particularly in promoting the women's and girls' program and coaching the first team to back-to-back promotions in 2021 and 2022. Spacey-Cale's departure comes amid reports of Southampton significantly cutting investment in the women's team, influenced by new licensing criteria for top-tier English clubs. The club has faced criticism following incidents involving its men's team, including the Spygate scandal earlier in the year.
