Melbourne Storm NSW Cup head coach Mark Russell departs for Sydney

Melbourne Storm confirmed the departure of NSW Cup head coach Mark Russell, who is moving to Sydney to pursue a new coaching role in 2027. Russell joined the club in 2023, initially working with the Jersey Flegg system before taking on head coach and pathway duties the following year. Under his leadership, the club secured the 2024 Under 21s Grand Final title and oversaw the transition of several players into the NRL. Eight of his Flegg squad members, including Cooper Clarke and Siulagi Tuimalatu-Brown, reached the NRL level under his guidance. Storm head of football Frank Ponissi stated the club's pathway program is in a stronger position following Russell's contributions. Russell expressed gratitude for his four-year tenure and the collaborative work with Matt Duffie.
