Merced ends Central's 62-game flag football winning streak in San Diego

Merced defeated Central-Phenix City 20-12 on Friday, September 11, during the MaxPreps Flag Football Showdown in San Diego. The result concludes a 62-game winning streak for the Alabama team that dated back to November 2022. Central, which holds three consecutive AHSAA Class 6A-7A state titles, had defeated Del Norte 39-7 earlier the same day. Merced remains undefeated this season with a 12-0 record behind senior quarterback Antonia Lejarde. The tournament featured 18 teams, including JSerra Catholic, Newport Harbor, and Orange Lutheran. This event marked one of the few instances of the Alabama-based Central competing against out-of-state opponents.
