Merritt Island defeats Astronaut 45-0 in district football match

Merritt Island moved to 4-0 on the season following a 45-0 victory over Astronaut on September 11. The Mustangs scored on each of their six offensive possessions, finishing the night with 428 total yards. Quarterback Kevin Verpaele completed 16-of-21 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense. Defensively, the Mustangs recorded their first shutout since October 2023, limiting Astronaut to 201 yards of offense and forcing two interceptions. Astronaut struggled to find consistency, ending a lengthy drive with a turnover on downs early in the fourth quarter. Merritt Island remains undefeated as it prepares to host Bishop Kenny on September 18.
