Ministers support Uefa's boycott of Fifa World Cup competitions

Summary

Uefa announced a boycott of Fifa competitions due to plans for private investment in major tournaments. This decision comes after a crisis meeting amid backlash against Fifa's proposal to create Fifa Forward Enterprise, which would involve selling minority stakes to private investors. UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy described the boycott as a principled stance for football. The Football Association, along with Welsh and Scottish football authorities, echoed this sentiment, opposing Fifa's governance changes. Uefa stated it would only participate in Fifa events if these proposals are fully abandoned.
