Monroe secures first football victory as regional athletes post standout performances

Monroe recorded its first football victory of the season Thursday, defeating Ann Arbor Skyline 37-6. Marquis Wilkerson anchored the defense with two interceptions to start the second half, while Landon Loveland contributed a safety and a touchdown before leaving the game due to injury. In other regional sports action, Jefferson-Erie Mason defeated Airport 7-3 in boys soccer on Wednesday behind two goals and four assists from Cooper Jones. Airport’s volleyball team mounted a comeback win against Grosse Ile, rallying from an two-set deficit to finish 21-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-8 behind Mya Stahr. Flat Rock golfer Elyse Rogier secured medalist honors at the first Huron League jamboree with a score of 80 at Green Meadows.
