Motor City Machine Guns sporadically appear in AEW programming

The Motor City Machine Guns’ run in AEW has been a huge disappointment up to this point, mostly because they’ve barely been on television. AEW officially announced that Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are All Elite after their surprise appearance on the July 30 live episode of Collision in their hometown of Detroit. MCMG then disappeared from AEW programming for the build to August’s All In London pay-per-view. They did appear at Wembley Stadium in a post-match segment to confront AEW World Tag Team Champions Adam Copeland and Christian Cage. However, since then, Sabin and Shelley have only wrestled one match against low card guys, which took place on the Sept. 5 episode of Collision. They have not wrestled on Dynamite at all since signing with AEW, and it looks like Tony Khan’s creative has nothing planned for them at this month’s All Out pay-per-view. That begs the question, what the heck is going on here? Sean Ross Sapp answered that question on Fightful’s post-Dynamite podcast. “They had made it kind of clear to AEW they wanted to do their tour first. I don’t even think they were necessarily that eager to debut on the Detroit episode. And AEW [was] like, no, this is where we should debut you.” If you didn’t know, Sabin and Shelley have formed a rock band called Grpplng. Based on what Sapp said, it sounds like Motor City Machine Guns would like to wrap up their commitments related to that project before going all in on AEW, so to speak. That could explain why their AEW appearances have been so sporadic up to this point. Does this explanation for MCMG’s lack of TV time in AEW make sense to you?
