Myles Mayovsky plays veteran role for Eastern Washington defense

Eastern Washington linebacker Myles Mayovsky has evolved into a defensive leader for the Eagles following a career that began as a preferred walk-on. During a 34-27 season-opening loss to Northern Arizona last Saturday, Mayovsky's experience was tested when he read a play-action look and committed to a pass rush that ultimately allowed a 30-yard touchdown. Linebackers coach Caleb Padilla noted that while the decision was technically incorrect for the defensive scheme, it reflected the high-level instinctual play expected of veterans. Mayovsky, who redshirted in 2022 and has since accumulated 36 games of experience, is currently part of a core group featuring seven players with at least 12 starts.
