Nationals pitcher DJ Herz nears return after recovery from Tommy John surgery

Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher DJ Herz is nearing a potential return to the major leagues following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery. After undergoing the procedure in April 2025 and facing a minor setback with a flexor strain this summer, Herz has advanced through the organization's minor league system. He currently serves on the roster at Triple-A Rochester after making appearances for Single-A Fredericksburg and Double-A Harrisburg. Across eight rehabilitation outings, the 25-year-old has posted a 3.71 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 17 innings. While the team plans to prioritize his long-term health, a return to the major league roster before the end of the season remains a possibility. Herz last pitched in the major leagues for Washington in 2024, recording 106 strikeouts across 19 starts.
