New Mexico State and UTEP have announced an in-season home-and-home men’s basketball series for the 2026-27 season. The teams will face off on November 12 in El Paso and then again on November 19 in Las Cruces. Both athletic departments view the rivalry as beneficial for fans and financially advantageous for both programs. This arrangement helps preserve the tradition of the Battle of I-10 while providing competitive non-conference games without the travel costs associated with neutral sites. There are plans for a similar home-and-home series in women’s basketball, and discussions of scheduling a football matchup between the two schools are ongoing.
