Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson defends summer transfer strategy

Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson maintains that the club’s summer transfer window followed the board's original plan, despite significant squad turnover. The club sold three major players and brought in eight new signings under the age of 24 for a combined cost exceeding £300 million. Wilson stated that the departure of Bruno Guimaraes was the only element outside of the club’s initial blueprint. During this period, Eddie Howe left his managerial post and was replaced by Matthias Jaissle weeks before the start of the Premier League season. While the club missed out on targets Victor Munoz and Johan Manzambi, Wilson described the recruitment process as internally stable and focused on reducing the squad's average age.
