NFL coaches and executives rank Shane Steichen among top play callers

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen received recognition for his offensive play-calling from league counterparts in an anonymous survey conducted by The Athletic. Jeff Howe gathered input from 20 general managers, head coaches, coordinators, and executives to determine the most effective play callers in the NFL, excluding Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan. Steichen tied for sixth place in the voting, garnering four votes from the panel. The recognition follows a 10-game stretch last season where the Colts demonstrated high offensive output and productive quarterback play. Despite the acknowledgement of his tactical ability, the Colts have yet to earn a playoff appearance under his direction. Steichen now faces the requirement to maintain this offensive consistency over a full 17-game season to reach the postseason.
