Northern Illinois University delays naming starting quarterback before Iowa game

Northern Illinois University coach Rob Harley has not yet selected a starting quarterback for Saturday’s season opener against Iowa. The team’s initial depth chart lists Jalon Macon, Taron Dickens, and Brady Davidson as potential starters for the position. Harley stated that coaching staff will continue to evaluate the three players during practice throughout the week before making a final decision. Macon and Davidson return from last year's roster, while Dickens joined the team as a transfer from Western Carolina. Harley noted that all three athletes offer distinct skill sets, with Macon excelling on broken plays, Dickens providing passing touch, and Davidson quickening the release of the ball. The program intends to maintain the competition until the offense takes the field for its first series in Iowa City.
