Packers sign former Vikings safety Kahlef Hailassie before Week 1 game

The Green Bay Packers signed safety Kahlef Hailassie to their roster days before the 2026 season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. The transaction followed the Vikings' decision to terminate Hailassie’s practice squad contract to create roster space for other personnel. While the Vikings previously brought Hailassie back to their practice squad after training camp, the recent move made him available for other teams to acquire immediately. The Packers also signed Damon Bankston and released Murvin Kenion from their practice squad. The Vikings are set to host the Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium for their first game of the regular season. Although Hailassie will join the Packers without having participated in the team’s specific preparation for this matchup, he carries experience within the league system dating back to November 2025.
