Padres move Fernando Tatis Jr. to second base following Luis Rengifo injury

The San Diego Padres shifted Fernando Tatis Jr. to second base for Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The defensive adjustment follows the team placing utility man Luis Rengifo on the 60-day injured list after he suffered a torn ACL during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Rengifo recorded a.291 batting average over 38 appearances before the injury ended his season. The Padres also recalled right-handed pitcher Jhony Brito and selected the contract of catcher Ethan Salas from Triple-A El Paso. With a 73-65 record, the Padres currently hold the final Wild Card berth in the National League. Tatis Jr. has appeared at second base 43 times this season and enters the matchup batting.281 with 17 home runs.
