Paralympic medalist Ali Truwit prepares for future swimming competitions

Ali Truwit is training in Southern California for the upcoming 100-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, and 100-meter backstroke events. The former Yale swimmer returned to competition following a 2023 shark attack in Turks and Caicos that resulted in the loss of her foot and part of her leg. Within one year of the injury, Truwit secured two silver medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. She currently maintains a focus on physical and psychological endurance while training for future cycles, including the Los Angeles 2028 games. Truwit also operates a nonprofit organization called Stronger Than You Think. Her rehabilitation included relearning how to walk and testing her competitive capabilities at the 2024 U.S. Paralympic Trials, where she recorded a personal best in the 100-meter backstroke.
