Penn State sports teams see mixed results in early September competition

Penn State athletes recorded performance milestones and competitive losses across multiple sports this week. Defensive end Caleb Bacon earned Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors following his play in the September 5 game against Marshall at Beaver Stadium. Wide receiver Koby Howard recorded a 95.6 PFF grade in the same contest, marking his highest output as a Penn State receiver. Elsewhere, the women’s volleyball team traveled to Chicago for a match against Kentucky at Wrigley Field. The team fell to Kentucky in four sets in the first volleyball competition held at the stadium. Penn State also introduced updated jersey numbers for the men’s hockey team as that program prepares for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Stadium renovations at Beaver Stadium continue to draw attention, with reports highlighting the steep angle of the updated west stands.
