Purdue football defeats Indiana State in season opener

Purdue football opened its season with a 44-19 victory over Indiana State in West Lafayette on September 5. After a sluggish first half that saw the Boilermakers settle for three field goals, the offense increased its scoring pace in the second half to pull away. Quarterback Ryan Browne recorded 317 passing yards and three touchdowns, while running back Fame Ijeboi contributed 117 yards on 10 touches. Despite the win, the team recorded nine penalties that coaches intend to address before the next game. The defense forced one turnover and registered three sacks, though it allowed 19 points to the FCS opponent. Purdue prepares to host Wake Forest on September 12.
