The Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 5-4 victory on Sunday in St. Petersburg. Jonny DeLuca forced extra innings with a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth off Mason Miller. After San Diego regained the lead in the 11th, Jorge Mateo hit a walk-off single to secure the win. The Padres lost their sixth straight game to Tampa Bay, despite an early lead provided by Xander Bogaerts’ two-run single in the fourth. Fernando Tatis Jr. was ejected in the seventh inning after being called out for running in fair territory. The Rays host the New York Mets on Monday, while the Padres open a series against the Cincinnati Reds.

"Jonny DeLuca hit a two-out, two-run homer off Mason Miller to tie it in the ninth inning and Jorge Mateo singled in the winning run in the 11th as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Sunday to finish a three-game sweep. Miller appeared to close it out when Samad Taylor chased down DeLuca's shot to left field, but the ball fell out of Taylor's glove when he hit the wall and landed on the other side to tie it 3-3.
