Readers nominate five high school football players for weekly honor

Fans are voting for the Week 3 Friday Night Hero following a series of standout performances in high school football across the region. Nominees include Mario Gallo of Desert Christian Academy, Carlos Garcia of Desert Mirage, Anthony Hodge of Desert Hot Springs, Devin Session of Palm Springs, and Cael Woody of Rancho Mirage. Candidates were selected after strong efforts in recent games, ranging from touchdown passes to defensive line contributions. Voting remains open through 5 p.m. on Tuesday at desertsun.com to determine the winner. The poll follows last week’s selection of Cathedral City running back Trace Vargas, who earned the Week 2 honor after scoring two touchdowns in a close contest. The winning player will be announced next week.
