Red Sox face bullpen decision as Tommy Kahnle pushes for promotion

As of May 31, 2026, Tommy Kahnle is pressing the Boston Red Sox for a promotion from their AAA affiliate. Kahnle has performed well in AAA, posting a 1.40 ERA and five saves in 18 games, but he threatens to enter free agency if not added to the MLB roster. With struggling relievers Greg Weissert and Danny Coulombe in the majors, the Red Sox are weighing Kahnle’s performance against recent challenges faced by their current bullpen. A decision must be made before the series opener against Baltimore.
