Riverheads defeats Luray to capture Region 1B baseball championship

Riverheads won the Region 1B baseball championship by defeating Luray 4-1 on June 4. The Gladiators took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and held off a late charge from Luray, who loaded the bases in the sixth but could not capitalize. Riverheads added two more runs in the sixth to secure the victory. Freshman pitcher Cason Croft earned the win, and junior relief pitcher Asher Falls closed out the game without allowing a hit. Riverheads will host Lancaster in a Class 1 state quarterfinal on June 9, while Luray faces Rappahannock in the state quarterfinals on the same day.
