Road Dogg recounts dark story involving Jeff Jarrett and drug use

Road Dogg recently recounted a strange — and dark — story from his substance-abusing past that involved a dead body and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett. The retired star shared the story during an interview with HeartasArt that was recorded during the recent Fan Expo Chicago 2026 and uploaded onto YouTube on Monday (August 24). During the talk, Dogg spoke about his time in the ring, working as a backstage producer, and the recent commentary appearance he did for Ohio Valley Wreslting (OVW). However, the most memorable anecdote he recalled involved his misspent years when he had issues with some vices. The memory came up when he was asked about his favorite wrestling moments in the Windy City. “Chicago, another thing, (there) used to be a club here called the Stay Out Club. Have you ever heard of that? Me and Jeff Jarrett drove right past a dead person (when) leaving,” Dogg said. He continued, “There’s a dead person on the road. (Jarrett said) ‘Should we stop?’ I looked, and I said, ‘We’ve been snorting cocaine for eight hours. We’re going to keep going.’ “Yeah, I’ve done a lot of stupid things in my life.” Road Dogg has always been candid about his years of abusing substances, but he has been sober since 2010. Jarrett, meanwhile, got sober in 2017. Dogg previously opened up about getting clean during an interview with Chris Van Vliet in 2025. “I’ve been sober for 15 years now,” he said at the time. “I did it to save my life. When I got sober, I was just done. I was done living, literally. I wanted to kill myself, but I was scared my kids were going to find me with my brains blown out in the lawnmower shed. That was real.” Dogg then told Van Vliet: “I was on a vicious cycle of waking up and doing drugs, waking up and doing drugs, waking up and doing drugs. And it was like, ‘Oh god, I don’t want to live this way anymore. This ain’t how my mom and dad raised me.’” The tag team legend has credited WWE paying for his rehab as a key factor in finally reaching a lasting sobriety.
