Rye defeats Cornwall in season-opening high school football game

Rye opened its high school football season with a 39-21 victory over Cornwall on Sept. 4. Quarterback Charlie Brady led the Garnets by rushing for five touchdowns, including scoring runs of 56, 55, and 38 yards. Cornwall held a brief 7-6 lead early in the second quarter following a 28-yard touchdown pass from Sage Caesar to Michael Cooper. Rye regained the lead shortly after and pulled away in the second half, with Max An adding a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. The win marks a successful start for Rye following a previous season that saw the team finish undefeated. Defensive efforts by Tyler Walsh, Evans Anderson, Graham Durkin, and Nick Holahan contributed to the win, with Holahan forcing a fumble that led to a Garnets touchdown.
