Said El Eyssami scores twice as Maryland tops Pitt in opener

Maryland men’s soccer began its 2026 season with a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh on August 20. Freshman Said El Eyssami scored both goals for the Terps in his collegiate debut, finding the net in the 11th minute and again shortly after halftime. Despite Maryland's win, Pitt dominated possession, outshooting the Terps 14-6 and creating numerous scoring chances. The Panthers responded with a long-range goal from Mamadou Tall, narrowing the deficit, but could not find an equalizer as Maryland's defense held firm. Nineteen players saw action for the Terps in this game as part of an early-season strategy to manage fitness levels.
