Sami Zayn wields WWE championship as a weapon in recent matches
Summary

Sami Zayn demonstrated his prowess in recent WWE events, using the championship title as a weapon. On August 21, during SmackDown at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, he interfered in a key match, knocking out Kevin Owens and CM Punk. Zayn continued this trend in Ottawa, incapacitating several competitors, including GUNTHER and Finn Balor, in a triple threat bout. Despite sporting a wrist brace and not being cleared to wrestle, Zayn's involvement leaves uncertainty regarding the future number one contender for Punk's championship.

TORONTO, CANADA - AUGUST 21: Sami Zayn takes out both WWE Champion and contender during SmackDown at Scotiabank Arena on August 21, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario. (Photo by Michael Marques/WWE via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images Sami Zayn is one hell of a professional wrestler but he becomes a legitimate force when he’s got the WWE championship in his hands. I mean that literally, by the way. That thing is a lethal weapon when he’s wielding it. He used it to stop Kevin Owens from winning it on Friday Night SmackDown in Toronto, then knocked him out with it. He did the same to CM Punk. He was back again this week in Ottawa to ruin a number one contender’s triple threat match, and once again he managed to get his hands on the WWE championship. Once again, he laid everyone out with it. Punk, Owens, GUNTHER, Finn Balor, all of them done in thanks to Zayn and the nuclear weapon known as the WWE championship. He’s still wearing the brace on his wrist and seemingly still not cleared to actually wrestle. Are we just in a holding pattern until then? Is everyone just going to get knocked out with the title until someone can get a hold of this guy and keep it from his desperate grasp? I guess we’ll see. For now, we still don’t have a number one contender for Punk’s championship.
