Samuel Shaw explains decision to play Dexter Lumis as silent character

Samuel Shaw, who performed in WWE as the silent character Dexter Lumis, recently discussed the creative process behind the role. During an appearance on the podcast INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Shaw explained that he chose the non-verbal approach to distinguish himself from other performers. He noted that he felt many characters in wrestling speak too much and sought to elicit emotional reactions from fans through a cold, imposing presence. While he previously portrayed a soft-spoken version of the character in TNA, the transition to a silent persona became his primary mission in WWE. Fans have recently recognized his voice after his appearance on the television series Tacoma PD. Shaw indicated that he maintains his own backstory for why the character remained quiet during his tenure with the promotion.
