The San Diego Padres secured a 4-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday at Petco Park. The Padres offense initiated the scoring in the first inning with back-to-back-to-back home runs from Fernando Tatís Jr., Jake Cronenworth, and Manny Machado before the Yankees could record an out. Despite the early deficit, Yankees starter Gerrit Cole pitched seven innings, surrendering six hits and four earned runs while striking out three. Luis Campusano added a solo home run for the Padres in the bottom of the seventh inning, which provided the eventual winning margin. The Yankees attempted a comeback in the eighth inning by scoring three runs, but could not close the gap. The game concluded in favor of the Padres as the two teams continue their current series.
