Shan Masood has been sidelined for the second cricket test against the West Indies due to a fractured left index finger. The injury occurred when fast bowler Jayden Seales' short ball hit Masood during the first innings of the first test at Trinidad, where he scored a century. Masood's absence follows Pakistan's 90-run defeat in that match. The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed Masood is undergoing treatment and there are three candidates, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, and uncapped Awais Zafar, vying for his spot in the lineup. The next test starts on Sunday, August 2, with Masood's participation in an upcoming series against England also in question depending on his recovery.
- •Masood fractured his left index finger during the first test.
- •He scored a century in the first innings but could not field afterwards.
- •Pakistan lost the first test by 90 runs in Trinidad.
- •The second test against West Indies starts on August 2.
- •Masood’s recovery will determine his participation in the England series.

"Pakistan in-form batter Shan Masood was ruled out of the second cricket test against the West Indies due to a fractured left index finger. Masood was the only bright batting spot in Pakistan’s 90-run defeat in the first test at Trinidad when the left-hander scored a century in the first innings. “Following a scan and clinical assessment, Shan is currently undergoing treatment from the Pakistan team medical panel,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement late Thursday.
