"Skye Blue sat down to chat on Close Up with Renee Paquette and during the course of the conversation she made a defense of hardcore matches that is driving some debate today: “I feel like a lot of people view hardcore matches as like cop outs. Like, ‘Oh, if you can’t make it in a real match, this is what you resort to.’ But I don’t think of that at all. I think it’s a different art form because there’s more suspense. There’s, ‘Oh, you have to set this up. What are they gonna do with that? Who’s gonna go through it? What’s gonna happen?’ Like, it’s a different type of roller coaster or a different type of adrenaline. It’s not for everybody and that’s totally fine. But for who it is for, I think it’s… I don’t know, you just get a thrill, and you get the butterflies, and you get excited like a little kid on Christmas. That’s how I feel in those matches.” Paquette mentioned the response she got for Blood & Guts and the several other times she’s gotten bloody and hardcore during matches. How have things changed over time with people seeing more and more of women getting violent like that? People just haven’t known what to expect from them during matches like this and they’ve been taken back by it because of that, Blue claimed. But she just wants to make it a thrill ride and now that the initial shock has worn off, it’s become a more common thing that feels less taboo. The debate will surely rage on, however. Have at it!
