Sophie Woods breaks record for Via Alpina in 29 days

New Zealand ultrarunner Sophie Woods completed the Via Alpina challenge, traversing eight countries in 29 days. She finished her journey in Monaco on August 1, breaking the previous men's and women's records. Woods ran 1,240 miles across Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and France, surpassing the prior fastest time set by Jake Catterall by six days. During her run, Woods faced extreme conditions, including a heatwave that saw temperatures rise above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, leading her to reduce her sleep to under two and a half hours nightly as she neared the end of her journey.
