Southern Miss football opens running back competition ahead of new season

Southern Miss football begins its 2026 season preparations with an ongoing battle for the starting running back job. Coach Blake Anderson noted that out of last year's top five rushers, only Robert Briggs returns, as the team aims to improve on a 2025 performance that ranked last in the Sun Belt Conference in rushing yards. The Golden Eagles have added transfers Steven Robinson, Jamarice Wilder, and Jaylen Foster to bolster their depth at the position. All four running backs received significant snaps during spring practices, leaving the door open for multiple players to contribute this season.
