Sunderland open Premier League season at Ipswich, face Newcastle in December

Sunderland will begin the 2026/27 Premier League season with an away match against Ipswich Town on August 22. The Black Cats will then host Fulham at The Stadium of Light on August 29. Their first Tyne-Wear derby against Newcastle United is set for December 5 at St James' Park, with the return match on May 1. Sunderland, who qualified for the Europa League after finishing seventh last season, will also face Manchester City in their final game of the season on May 30.
