Sydney Roosters seek match in Japan for 2028 NRL global round

The Sydney Roosters have expressed interest in participating in the NRL Global Round in Japan for 2028. This potential venture follows the league's multi-year international strategy initiated in Las Vegas in 2024. The NRL currently plans to shift its international focus toward Asia, specifically Japan and Hong Kong, as the existing Nevada contract concludes in 2028. The Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos, who previously played in the 2024 Las Vegas doubleheader, are considered likely candidates for this future international fixture. Beyond Asian expansion, the league is also evaluating long-term prospects for matches in England and Miami. The upcoming fourth year of the Las Vegas series will continue as scheduled in February with a triple-header involving the Melbourne Storm, Wests Tigers, Parramatta Eels, and Gold Coast Titans.
