Te Maire Martin prepares to explore free agency for 2028 NRL contract

New Zealand Warriors half Te Maire Martin is set to test the open market when the NRL contract negotiation window opens on November 1. Although Martin’s current deal runs through 2027, the 30-year-old plans to evaluate options for his future in the league. Manager Andrew Purcell confirmed the intention to seek external interest despite the player being settled in Auckland. The Warriors have experienced significant turnover in their halves depth, including the departures of Luke Hanson and Luke Metcalf, while Jett Cleary is also returning to Australia. Martin, who has recorded 120 NRL appearances, remains in contention for a starting role alongside Chanel Harris-Tavita and Tanah Boyd for the 2027 season. He is currently scheduled to return to the starting lineup as the halfback for the final regular season match against Manly after recovering from a hamstring injury.
