Team GB&I holds early lead over United States at Walker Cup

Great Britain and Ireland holds a 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 lead over the United States following Saturday morning's foursomes at the 51st Walker Cup in Lahinch, Ireland. Niall Sheils Donegan and Josh Hill secured a point for GB&I despite a rules controversy during their match against Ryder Cowan and Josiah Gilbert. Connor Graham and Tyler Weaver added a second point for GB&I by winning their match against Kihei Akina and Jay Leng. The United States claimed their lone point in the final match of the session when Miles Russell and Tyler Watts defeated Sam Easterbrook and Luke Poulter. The opening matches took place in shifting wind conditions as the competition transitioned into the afternoon singles format. The two sides continue play today at Lahinch Golf Club to determine the final standings for the opening day.
