Tennessee defeats Furman 56-9 in season opener at Neyland Stadium

Tennessee opened its season with a 56-9 victory over Furman at Neyland Stadium on Saturday. The 18th-ranked Volunteers offense totaled 638 yards during the game, while the defense limited Furman to 221 yards. Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon made his collegiate debut as part of the team's season-opening effort. Head coach Josh Heupel noted that while the team needs to address penalties and execution in all three phases, he was pleased with the performance and the effort shown by his roster. Tennessee moves to a 1-0 record following the win. The Volunteers are scheduled to travel to face Georgia Tech on September 12.
