Tottenham has drawn scrutiny for its scouting process while searching for a new left winger. Analyst Rory Smith noted that the club shortlisted three players with entirely different profiles, suggesting a lack of cohesive planning in recruitment. The identified targets included Cody Gakpo, Iliman Ndiaye, and Mykhailo Mudryk, all of whom have Premier League experience but few other shared characteristics. Chelsea has also confirmed the acceptance of an offer for Mudryk late in the summer transfer window. Smith expressed concern that clubs frequently spend significant resources on data and analysis, yet fail to establish a clear pattern for their recruitment needs. He contrasted the club's approach with more disciplined strategies used by other organizations in the league. The critique highlights a broader concern about how top-tier teams prioritize player acquisitions versus their internal scouting evaluations.
