UCLA defensive back Ta'Shawn James earns Big Ten honors after win

UCLA defensive back Ta'Shawn James earned Big Ten Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors following the team's 45-24 victory over Cal. In his first appearance for the Bruins, James recorded two interceptions and eight combined tackles, including three solo stops. His late-game interception secured the result against Cal quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele. James shares the weekly conference award with Penn State's Caleb Bacon. The defensive back joined UCLA this season after 26 career games at Iowa State. His performance accounted for half of the total interceptions the Bruins recorded during the entire 2025 season.
