Ukraine motorsport authority demands sanctions against Russian federation

The Ukraine national motorsport authority (FAU) has formally requested that FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem impose sanctions on the Russian automobile federation (RAF). The FAU claims the Russian organization has violated international governing body rules by establishing offices in occupied regions of Ukraine, including Crimea, Sevastopol, and the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. This appeal follows the FIA's decision last month to lift the ban on Russian and Belarusian competitors in international events. FAU president Oleksander Feldman stated that the organization has already contacted the FIA senate and ethics committee without receiving a response. The Ukrainian body has now lodged a formal case with the FIA international court of appeal. Beyond the specific territorial dispute, the FAU is demanding that the FIA suspend Russia's membership and re-establish strict competition restrictions.
