University of Akron mascot Zippy joins ceremony at Citi Field

The University of Akron mascot, Zippy, traveled to New York City on Sept. 5 to participate in an event celebrating the induction of Mrs. Met into the Mascot Hall of Fame. The New York Mets hosted a ceremony at Citi Field that included a selection of mascots from across the United States. This event focused on honoring female representation within sports, including female mascots and fandom. Following the appearance at the stadium, Zippy also visited Times Square for a promotional showcase of the University of Akron brand. Michelle Banis, director of alumni relations and coordinator of the mascot program at the University of Akron, described the invitation as an honor for the university and its community.
