USGA and R&A propose new equipment rules for elite golf tours

The USGA and R&A are exploring Model Local Rules that would impose new equipment restrictions for elite golfers by January 2028. The proposals include requirements for shorter golf balls, stricter limits on driver flexibility, and a maximum club length of under 46 inches for all clubs except putters. These changes aim to reduce the distance elite golfers can hit the ball without affecting recreational play. Equipment manufacturers have until October 21 to provide feedback on the proposed rules.
