Vanity Project reclaim the NXT Tag Team titles at Heatwave
Summary

Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes captured the NXT Tag Team Championship on Sunday at the WWE NXT Heatwave event. The duo, known collectively as Vanity Project, secured the victory over Myles Borne and Tavion Heights. The match featured sustained back-and-forth action, with both teams utilizing tag sequences and power moves throughout the contest. Despite a late rally from Borne and Heights that included a belly-to-belly suplex from the ropes, Baylor and Smokes remained in control to deliver their signature stomp and neck breaker combination for the win. While Heights had previously expressed uncertainty regarding his partnership if the team lost their titles, he maintained his alliance with Borne following the match.

What they're saying

The Vanity Project and Myles Borne & Tavion Heights were a major focus of today’s (Sun., Aug. 30, 2026) NXT Heatwave television special from Edinburg, Texas, with two championship matches booked featuring members of both sides, and Borne, holding two titles coming in, forced to pull double duty. First, Borne & Heights took on Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes for the tag team titles. Swipe Right, as they are known collectively, worked Borne over, wearing him down. Once Heights was taken out of the picture, Borne just didn’t have enough left in him and he was pinned to give Baylor & Smokes their second reign as tag champs. #ANDNEW 🤯 The Vanity Project are once again NXT Tag Team Champions! pic.twitter.com/GQLf3Ca3Du — WWE (@WWE) August 30, 2026 What was noteworthy here was the way Heights seemed to walk behind Borne and consider his options. It sure felt like one hell of a tease for a heel turn on his friend. Later, during a locker room talk, they lingered on Heights and you couldn’t help but get the same vibe. When Borne went out for his North American championship match against Jackson Drake, it was no surprise, then, that Heights was out with him. Of course, Vanity Project were out in support of Drake but that felt like an excuse as much as anything else. Of course, we did indeed get outside interference in the match, with the referee somehow missing enough to allow Drake to score the pinfall and win the title, with Heights outside the ring watching it happen. He looked disappointed. When he got in the ring after, he consoled his friend. And then the swerve — it was Borne who attacked Heights before walking out. Off they go with that again, I suppose. But The Vanity Project moves on dripping in gold, with one hell of a heater by their side. #ANDNEW 🏆@JacksonDrake03 is the NEW NXT North American Champion! pic.twitter.com/xntX5G16sZ — WWE (@WWE) August 30, 2026 Like it?
