Wales loses 3-2 to Japan at Hockey World Cup classification match

Wales faced Japan in a 9th-16th classification match at the Hockey World Cup on August 24, losing 3-2. Japan took an early lead with goals from Shota Tamada and Kosei Kawabe, while Wales found their footing in the second half. Jacob Draper's goal brought Wales closer, but despite pulling their goalkeeper for an equalizer, Kazumasa Matsumoto scored into the empty net. Sam Welsh replied shortly after, but Wales could not find another goal in the final seconds. Wales will now play Malaysia for 15th place on August 28 in Wavre, Belgium.
