Weldon Nelms returns to coach Iowa Park football after 27 years

Weldon Nelms has taken over as head football coach at Iowa Park, Texas, after 27 years. Nelms, who coached the Hawks from 1994 to 1999, is leading a roster of about 32 players, including 12 seniors, as the team prepares for a transition to Class 4A Division II. He expressed excitement about working with the players and noted that several underclassmen could play key roles. Iowa Park has five nondistrict games before district play begins, with their season opener set for August 28 against Henrietta High School.
